Getting from Paleochora to Loutro:

Blog
Due to the existence of many gorges in south-west Crete, Loutro doesn’t have a road network.
Therefore, the ferry service between the villages of Paleochora, Sougia, Agia Roumeli, Loutro and Hora Sfakion is a mandatory option.
For hikers there is always the option to combine hiking and taking the ferry from any of the aforementioned destinations to Loutro.
In the months of April to October the ferry service is regular, sea conditions permitting.
Please note that, in order to get from Paleochora to Loutro you might have to change boat.
The ferry timetables can vary based on the season, so it is essential to check the latest schedules on the ANENDYK website or at the local ticket offices.
You can view their timetable here: https://anendyk.gr/routes/
Travel Tip:
– The ferries can be subject to weather conditions, especially in the off-season, so plan accordingly and have some flexibility in your schedule.

If you have a car you can also drive from Paleochora to Chora Sfakion or Sfakia. The drive takes 2.5 to 3 hours.
Park your car in Hora Sfakion and take the scheduled ferry to Loutro.

For a slower option, you can take a bus. If you choose this option, note that you must change buses at the central bus station in Chania (KTEL). Take a bus from Paleochora to Chania; KTEL buses run this route regularly, and the journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. From Chania, take another bus to Hora Sfakion, which takes about 1.5 hours. From Hora Sfakion, take the ferry to Loutro.
The quickest but most expensive option is to take a taxi directly from Paleochora to Hora Sfakion, which takes around 2.5 to 3 hours. When you get off to Hora Sfakion, take the ferry to Loutro.

USEFUL TIPS:

– It might be helpful to consider spending a night in Chania or any other southerN destination between Paleochora and Loutro, in case the ferry connections do not align perfectly with your travel times.
