Paleochora is a small town of 3000 inhabitants, situated in the south west coast of Crete, 71km south of Chania and 209km south west of Heraklion city.

Paleochora is built on a small peninsula and so it faces both the east and west with numerous beaches and small coves extending on both sides.
Paleochora is quite a windy place, with hot days and cool nights.

The east side of Paleochora features a lovely promenade offering relaxing unobstructed views as well as the jetty where the ferries anchor.
The ferries depart every day towards the east, making multiple stops to places like Sougia, Samaria gorge, and the beautiful eastern area of Sfakia.
The east promenade is very popular in the evening when passing cars are prohibited making it perfect for children which can play safely.
At the eastern end of the promenade there is the pebbly beach of Chalikia (ie Pebbles).
Chalikia beach is organised with umbrellas, sunbeds and showers while cafes and restaurants start right in front of the beach.
The beach, though gentle shaving at the beginning, has deep waters which makes this pebbly cenral beach of Paleochora another must visit beach!

As Paleochora is built on a small peninsula, the east and west side of the village is connected via a small street which starts opposite the jetty and takes you to the west side in less thanĀ 10 minutes on foot.

The west side of Paleochora features the long sandy beach of Pachia Ammos. The beach is little less than 1 km long.
Pachia Ammos is fully organised with umbrellas, sunbeds, showers and activities for children. It is also ideal for surfing and kite surfing when western winds make their appearance.

Pachia Ammos beach and its promenade are mostly lively in the mornings till sunset.
In summertime there are many breakfast cafes lined on the beach.
Sunsets are utterly beautiful and relaxing at a cafe or the beach at sunset is definitely worth it!
